Chicken evades roadkill fate
SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Why didn't the chicken cross the road? Or more precisely, why didn't he make it across the road?
That's the question South Brunswick police were asking at about 9 a.m. Thursday when they received a report of a chicken lying in the middle of Timothy Avenue near Nancy Street.
Animal-control officers and police responded to the scene and quickly determined that the chicken, whose identity has not been released, belonged to a Henderson Road resident who is known to have several chickens on his property.
"It was easy to figure it out," said detective Jim Ryan. "There aren't that many chickens in town."
The owner was not home at the time the chicken flew the coop, so it is unknown how it left the property. The chicken appeared to have suffered an injury and is recuperating at home.
